SCM Successful implementation of a Supply Chain Management system has enabled organizations throughout the world to lower operating costs. The integration of that type of system with an eService application suite can have additional benefits in many areas, but two–Spare parts inventory planning and Reverse Logistics – represent areas with great potential cost reduction. Spare parts inventory planning is based on different criteria than traditional raw materials planning. Information such as Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and product demand history is maintained within the eService application, and is used to drive spare parts planning applications creating the most accurate usage forecasts available. Accurate forecasting can provide the means for reducing inventory holding costs. Reverse logistics, that is, the movement of items from the field back to a service or repair center, affects not a company’s field service professionals, but customers attempting to return products for repair. In an eService System, Return Materials Authorizations (RMAs) can be generated by customers, or field service professionals on-line, and due to its connectivity to the Repair center, enables the repair center to plan accordingly for the demand, streamlining the repair process. |
